The Single Biggest Marketing Mistake Entrepreneurs Make…

I am usually called in after the entrepreneur has spent years building a business that hasn’t taken off to the degree that he/she would have wanted.

Unfortunately, this happens all the time and that is totally frustrating.

It is frustrating to see less accomplished people succeed when you have put in so much mental energy into your idea and business.

The good news, is that the mistake is usually a common and it can be rectified with a fresh set of marketing eyeballs.

Here it is…

The entrepreneur lacks a marketing plan that is relevant to the niche that they are in!

I have seen companies focus online when their best efforts would be spend in an offline direct response campaign.

I have also seen the opposite.

My experience has shown me the reason why such bright talented people fail to see the landscape as it really is on a marketing level.

  • Not through lack of talent.
  • Not through lack of marketing knowledge (they know their product better than anyone!)
  • Not through lack of desire to succeed.

Rather, the problem lies in the fact that they are married to their business and fail to see the bigger picture. They are married to their problems and frustrations and to their realities.

It’s amazing what a fresh set of eyeballs can do for a business that has failed to live up to the potential it has.

How many times has a company told me:

“Barry, we have such a great product and we know there is a market for it. we just can’t seem to get the word out about it!”

They are amazed how a few hours with a marketer can change their business.

Don’t get me wrong, I am no genius.

I don’t claim to be and never have.

But I do have the ability to see the landscape. Especially when I have the luxury of looking at a business from afar.

That’s the reason why having a mentor is so important.

In fact a lack of one is the single biggest factor why most businesses fail and never reach their potential.

Excellent article.

I totally agree that this is a real problem for business owners.

Seeing the flowers among the thorns can be pretty hard.

Barry, What are your suggestions then? Hiring high end consultants can be pretty expensive and beyond most businesses.

Andy
